Pixies - All I Think About Now

Maybe my track of the year? Written by Frank Black but sung by new Pixies bassist Paz Lenchantin. And even more - it's a tribute and thank-you to original band member and indie music goddess Kim Deal. Very interesting.....Paz might not be Kim but she absolutely rips it up here with her vocals and raw edged poignant emotion shining the whole way through. You could be listening to a track off the album Doolittle - and it doesn't get any better than that.

Phantastic Ferniture - Gap Year

Newish Sydney band with the single'Gap Year' released late 2015. Phantastic female vocals (see what I did there?) courtesy of vocalist Julia Jacklin who gives it some real attitude and zing.

Chris Forsyth and The Solar Motel Band - The Calvary Cross

Sometimes you just want to listen to a bit of alt country with a twangy guitar and get lost in the journey - The Calvary Cross (originally by Richard Thompson)....

Buzz Kull - Tomorrow's Ghosts

Synthwave? Darkwave? Synthpunk? Postsynth? Whatever you want to call it this newly released tune from Sydney local Marc Dwyer celebrates lost love, despair and very late nights. Interesting video too.

Methyl Ethel - Twilight Driving

Managed to catch Methyl Ethel at at this year's Laneways Festival in Sydney where they were the perfect start to an increasingly hectic day. Laid back, dream-scape pop as easy as you like - this track adding a bit of a folkey vibe and even a line of sax!

Green Buzzard - (I Don't Wanna) Break Your Heart

A right poppy guitar fuzzed number from a newish Sydney band that doesn't disappoint. Loads of jangle, synth and quickish drum beats, it keeps things pretty tight and simple. Minimal distort on the vocals gives the track just the edge that's needed. On high rotation due to ultra-ultra catchiness!

Sego - Young Turks

Rod Stewart covered by American alt-indie slacker band Sego. A real treat or somewhat guilty pleasure?? Personally, I'm quite liking the stripped-back synth distorted effort that remains true to the original but adds just a shade more depth and darkness. Shades of Sonic Youth in there too I reckon - and yes they could have gone just that bit more lo-fi fuzzy...but even so...
