Collapse - Syrup

Noisy. Japanese. Shoegaze. Worth a listen just for those three words alone. The track 'Syrup' released 2016 from Collapse's debut self-titled EP. Waves of riotous guitar overlaid with sugary female vocal goodness.

Cranes - Inescapable

A haunting anxiety inducing dreamscape summarises this one - a 1990 release from 'Cranes' (siblings Alison and Jim Shaw, UK). Track length a bit short for what could could have been a shoegaze epic.

Brightness - Dallas

Brightness (aka Australian singer-songwriter Alex Knight) shifts the darkness dial up a notch - vulnerability and the rhetoric of TV crusaders unmasked. Nice bit of squally guitar. Released 2019. 

Fontaines D.C. - Televised Mind

Bleak drone rock lamenting the rise of media led group think??? Whatever it is, Dublin band 'Fontaines D.C' do it all pretty well. From the 2020 album 'A Hero's Death.'

Aime Simone - In This Dark Time

Introspective, downbeat bass and pensive vocals from Aime Simone exploring the despair and fears of covid-19 and the present day. 

Slowdive - When the Sun Hits

Top notch shoegaze from the unheralded but ahead-of-their-time English band Slowdive. Little recognition for them during the era of bright and shiny Britpop but lots of oceanic wave-crashing noise in 'When the Sun Hits' (from the second Slowdive album 'Souvlaki' released in 1993).

Porridge Radio - Sweet

Quiet, loud, raw, emotive, angry, scarred, pop, punk type stuff from Brighton (UK) band Porridge Radio. Loads of self observational and deeply confessional lyrics from singer/songwriter Dana Margolin across the full album 'Every Bad'. This single released back in Jan 2020.

Sorry - Snakes

Hot off the press this one... North London's next big thing maybe? A band called 'Sorry' with a debut album not too far away. A combo sound - pop, guitar, filters plus well produced. Sweet or sour, dream or nightmare, real or make believe? Not comforting but enticing...

T54 - Nails Painted

T54 - A Christchurch band - part of the flying nun stable - sound a bit like 'Loves Ugly Children' (the day after and nursing a sore head, maybe). Liking the quiet, loud, loud+reverb aspect of this one. Dates back to 2013.

STRFKR - Golden Light

It's a bit sad and melancholic this one...time-ticking, heart-beating, life-assessing indie-electro from STRFKR. Faded and fleeting glories a la Lost in Translation springs to mind but that could just be me...
